By always performing our daily activities in the same way we develop habits (which can fundamentally reduce our choices) leading to overuse and stress in some parts of us and lack of mobility and awareness in others. Improvement in one area leads to improvement in others, contributing to greater comfort and spontaneity throughout your whole self, whether you’re looking for easier movements in everyday life, performance or athletics. In this class we will explore a variety of movement lessons (called “Awareness Through Movement” and created by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais—scientist, engineer, judo master and all-around genius). The movements are gentle, but are practiced with attention and awareness, allowing you to notice your habitual ways of moving and find new possibilities. Lessons are generally done lying on the floor, so please dress comfortably and warmly and bring a mat or blanket. Suitable for all levels. Jan, a Certified Feldenkrais practitioner, teaches extensively around the Bay Area.
